Highlights

The short answer

Visitors heading from Incheon into Seoul buy a limousine bus ticket at a counter or machine before boarding; at Terminal 1 certain routes take cash or a transport card at the door, but Terminal 2 needs a ticket first. Back to the airport, you pay the driver in cash or with a T-money transport card; credit cards cannot pay on board (in unavoidable cases the card is handed to the driver and settled after arrival), and the Climate Card and Discover Seoul Pass are not accepted on that trip. Our sources list no Alipay or WeChat Pay option. Children in elementary school pay a child fare. Checked against bus operator, airport and transport card pages in September 2026.

Airport Transfers · Incheon · Gimpo · Busan

This guide is for visitors paying their own way between Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항) and Seoul on the Airport Limousine bus, with notes on the airport train. It takes each payment method in turn (foreign cards, cash, a T-money card, mobile wallets and tourist passes) and says where it works on the trip into the city and where it works on the ride back, then sets out what children and teenagers pay. Routes, stops and counter opening hours are in our separate limousine bus guide. Boarding rules on these buses have changed recently (see the Terminal 2 rule below), so read the operator's notices again in the week before you fly.

How do I pay for the airport bus in each direction?

The operator runs two different systems, one for each direction:

  • Towards the city: buy a ticket at the staffed booth or the vending machine at the airport before boarding. Ticket holders board first, including on late-night buses.
  • Towards the airport: cash or a transportation card (T-money) paid to the driver. Credit cards cannot be processed on the bus.

From the airport, the terminal you leave from also matters. This is how the rules line up:

How do I pay for the airport bus in each direction?
TripWhen you payWhat the operator says is accepted

The short version: into the city, think "ticket first" unless you are on a Terminal 1 first-come route; back to the airport, think "won or a transport card in your pocket".

Where do I buy a ticket when I land, and does the terminal matter?

Yes, the terminal matters. Terminal 2: ticket counter or ticket vending machine in Basement 1. Terminal 1: ground floor.

At Terminal 1, the ticket booths are spread out. Terminal 1 bus ticket booths are inside the terminal next to exits 4 and 9, and outside near exits 4, 6, 7, 8, 11 and 13. Terminal 1 also has an exception to the ticket-first rule. Routes 6001, 6002 and 6015 at Terminal 1 only are first-come, first-served, and accept cash, a transportation card or a ticket. On those three routes you can walk to the stop with cash or a transport card such as T-money and pay as you board.

At Terminal 2 there is no such exception. Passengers boarding Airport Limousine buses to downtown Seoul at Terminal 2 must buy a ticket in advance, including on routes 6001, 6002 and 6015, a rule in force since 2026-03-05. Buy the ticket before you go out to the stop, even if you are travelling on a route that takes cash at Terminal 1.

If you land after the staffed counters close, the operator lists its ticket machines as open 24 hours, including late-night bus tickets. Our sources do not say which cards or notes the counters and machines accept, so have a fallback ready: some won in cash, or a second card.

Can I use a foreign credit or debit card?

Towards the airport, not in the usual way. The operator's bus page, for trips from the city to the airport, puts it plainly. Regular credit cards, the Seoul Climate Card and Discover Seoul cards are not accepted on board.

There is a fallback for unavoidable cases, and it is not a payment on the bus: Credit cards cannot be used to pay on the bus; in unavoidable cases, hand the card to the driver and settle payment immediately after arriving at Incheon Airport.

In other words, the driver holds your card and you settle the fare as soon as you reach Incheon Airport. Treat this as a last resort for a morning when the cash and the transport card have both run out, not as your plan for getting to the airport.

Into the city, apart from the Terminal 1 first-come routes, you pay at the ticket counter or machine rather than on the bus. Our sources do not say which cards those counters and machines take, foreign or domestic. The operator's notices also do not treat debit cards separately from credit cards, and our sources say nothing specific about them. If your card is refused at the counter, the cash points listed in the next section are your next step.

Can I pay in cash, and where can I get won at the airport?

Cash is confirmed in both directions, but at different points in the trip. Back to the airport, it is one of the two methods the driver accepts (see the table above). From Terminal 1 into Seoul, the first-come routes take cash at the door. Everywhere else from the airport, you pay at the counter or machine, and our sources do not confirm whether those take notes.

Our sources list these cash points at Terminal 1:

  • A 24-hour ATM is near Exit 4 in the public area on the 1st floor, Terminal 1.
  • 24-hour ATM near the All-stop Train ticket machines on floor B1, Terminal 1.
  • A 24-hour KB Bank currency exchange counter is near Arrival Hall B on 1F, Terminal 1.
  • A 24-hour Woori Bank currency exchange counter is on 1F of Terminal 1, near Exit 11.

Our sources do not list cash machines or exchange counters at Terminal 2, so if you arrive there, find one before you queue for the bus.

Should I get a T-money card for the airport bus and train?

The T-money transit card is the transport card the bus operator names. It covers the ride back to the airport, and at Terminal 1 it also covers the first-come routes into the city.

Getting one before your first bus ride takes some planning, because the purchase point in our sources is in the city. T-money transit cards can be bought at any Seoul subway ticket office. The card itself costs ₩2,500, according to Seoul Metro. Our sources do not list a T-money sales point at the airport. LG U+ runs a promotion with an airport pickup: A free T-money card is included with a data-only eSIM purchase of 3 days or more, for airport pickup.

For children and teenagers, Seoul Metro sets an extra step. Buying a teenager or child transportation card requires an ID card, and the card must be registered online within 10 days of purchase. Our sources do not say what discount such a card gives on the airport bus or the airport train.

When you leave Korea, you can get back what is left on the card, within limits:

  • At a subway station customer service centre: on-the-spot refund only if the balance is under 50,000 KRW, minus a 500 KRW fee.
  • At a partner convenience store (GS25, CU, 7-Eleven, Ministop, emart24): on-the-spot refund only if the balance is under 20,000 KRW, minus a 500 KRW fee.

So spend the balance down on your last few rides, and keep enough on the card for the bus back to the airport.

Do Alipay, WeChat Pay or tourist passes like the Climate Card work?

Mobile wallets first. Towards the airport, the operator lists two ways to pay the driver, cash and a transportation card, and neither Alipay nor WeChat Pay is among them. For tickets bought at the airport, our sources do not list the counters' or machines' payment options at all, so we cannot confirm either way. Carry won or a T-money card rather than relying on a phone wallet.

On the way to the airport, the operator names two passes it does not accept. Its notice for buses towards the airport says: The Climate Card and Discover Seoul Pass, among others, cannot be used to pay the fare.

Note the words "among others". Do not assume that a Seoul pass works on the airport bus just because it is not named. Our sources say nothing about using a pass to buy a ticket at the airport counters.

The K-Pass transport refund scheme is limited to registered residents. Only residents registered in a participating local authority, aged 19 or over, are eligible for the K-Pass refund scheme. Airport buses are left out of it in any case: Intercity and express buses, KTX, SRT and airport buses are excluded because they are ticketed separately and have no transfer discount.

What do children and teenagers pay?

On the limousine bus, the dividing line is the child's stage of school, with an age floor:

  • The child fare applies to elementary school pupils; from middle school upwards the adult fare applies.
  • Children's fare applies from age 6 to elementary school students.

A teenager in middle school or above therefore pays the adult fare. Fares for the day routes, adult and child, are listed route by route in our limousine bus guide. The services below have fares of their own:

What do children and teenagers pay?
Bus and directionAdultChild
Non-stop deluxe limousine, Seoul to Incheon Airport₩17,000₩12,000
Via Gimpo Airport, Seoul to Incheon Airport₩16,000Not given in this guide; ask at the counter
N6000 night bus, from the airport into the city₩17,000₩10,000
N6000 night bus, towards the airport₩17,000₩10,000

The night bus has its own child fare, so check the row for the bus you will actually take.

For pre-school children, the operator's fare page says: One pre-school child accompanying one passenger travels free; a child fare applies if a seat is requested or if one passenger brings two children.

Its passenger notice adds: A child's fare is charged if parents want a seat assigned to an infant.

Its online-ticket and refund page words the rule differently: One accompanying child under 6 travels free; a second child under 6, or a child under 6 with an assigned seat, must pay full fare.

The pages differ on what a second small child, or a small child with their own seat, pays. Confirm at the ticket counter before you buy, or ask the driver before you board on the way back to the airport.

How do I pay for the airport train?

Our sources say much less about the Airport Railroad Express line (공항철도) than about the bus. Airport Railroad ticket vending machines and ticket counter are in the Transportation Center, Basement 1 of each terminal.

The one Airport Railroad fare in our sources is for the transfer between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2: ₩1,050 for a ride estimated at 6 minutes. Our sources do not give the fares into Seoul, child or teen fares on the train, or which cards and passes its machines and gates accept. Ask at the ticket counter, or call the Airport Railroad hotline on 1599-7788.

What if I reach the bus without cash, a card that works or a ticket?

Into the city from Terminal 2, you cannot board without a ticket, so go back to the counter or a ticket machine. At Terminal 1, if your route is one of the first-come routes, cash or a T-money card at the door will do; on other routes you need the ticket first.

If the counter will not take your card, draw cash at one of the Terminal 1 cash points above, or ask at the airport bus information desk:

  • Airport Bus Information desk near Exit 11 in the public area on 1st Floor, Terminal 1.
  • Airport Bus Information desk open 24 hours near Exit 9 on 1F, Terminal 2.

The operator lists the phone numbers 032-741-6400 at Terminal 1 and 032-741-8918 at Terminal 2.

On the way back to the airport, with no cash and no transport card, the card hand-over described above is the operator's stated fallback for unavoidable cases. For phone help, see our page on calling for help with airport transport.

Questions people ask

Can I pay the airport limousine driver with a foreign credit card?

Not on the way to the airport. The operator says credit cards cannot be processed on board; in unavoidable cases the driver holds your card and you settle the fare on arrival at Incheon. Into the city you generally buy a ticket before boarding; the exception is certain Terminal 1 routes that take cash, a transport card or a ticket at the door. See the card section above.

Can I pay cash at the bus door at Terminal 2?

No. At Terminal 2 you need a ticket from the counter or a ticket machine before boarding, including on the routes that take cash at the door at Terminal 1.

Are Alipay or WeChat Pay accepted on the airport bus?

Neither appears among the payment methods the operator lists for paying the driver on the way to the airport, and our sources do not cover the ticket counters. Carry won or a T-money card.

Does the Climate Card work on the airport limousine bus?

Not on buses towards the airport. The operator names the Climate Card and the Discover Seoul Pass among the cards it does not accept for the fare.

When does my child have to pay the adult fare?

From middle school upwards. Elementary school pupils pay the child fare, and the operator's rules for pre-school children are set out in the children's section above.
